The I weigh campaign was started by The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil to push back from media’s negative influence over women. This is a platform that celebrates health, energy, and a positive mindset. This is not a body positivity movement but a life positivity movement. Jamil said, “It’s for us to feel valuable and see how amazing we are and look beyond the flesh on our bones."
This movement all started when this picture of the Kardashians was posted on Instagram with each of their weights typed out over their bodies. The caption read, “Does Kim look 56KG?!?! Which weight are you?”
What are we teaching women about value and self-worth? After Jamil began her campaign there has been an incredible push back against body shamming and overall degradation of women. We are subliminally bullied all day by the magazines, the side bar of shame, social media, and by each other. Let’s start loving ourselves and building women up rather than comparing our individual lifestyles.
Jameela posted on her Instagram saying, “we are going to have to retaliate with 10 times the strength to undo all of the damage to the global psyche of women” This movement has brought awareness to people of all ages that it is never too late or too early to be your best, healthiest, most confident self. This is a call to action to embrace your body for what it helps you do and to love yourself for who you are and what you have to offer the world.
"It turned into an online museum of self-love." –Jameela Jamil
Your confidence should constantly be in motion - nothing is sedentary; not your body, not your thoughts, not your goals. You have no one to measure up to but yourself and once we all start realizing that, we can stop standing in the way of our own success. Here’s to “I Weigh Wednesdays” and showing the world what we strong, smart, and sassy women are truly made of!
